Louis Here
When needed, I'll swing by. Living one of the laziest summers of recent memory, I admit that I initially joined PRX in hopes to fill a large part of my day. To avoid the self-loathing that comes from idle hands, PRX sounded like a neat opportunity to explore the world of public radio. Before coming here, I thought of public radio as one of the last cool frontiers in our country with the likes of public libraries and national parks.
I feel that either these services are grossly underappreciated in our culture or that my home life in Kansas City, Missouri (often regarded as very lazy and overweight by national polls) falsely led me believe this. Upon coming to Cambridge for college, I was shocked by the incredible amount of active students and residents. I enjoy it so much here that I go home a total of 4 weeks out of the year to avoid the sights there. To allow this, I tell my family that I need to be out here to train most of the year. I am a year round wrestler for Harvard and will be competing this summer internationally so my time here is limited unfortunately.
My initial reaction to PRX is a desire to help. Filled with interesting people, PRX seems to take on many large projects and has a limited staff. Unfortunately, my lack of experience doesn't allow me to jump in and help right away. My wrestling also doesn't help as I must leave early for it. If I don't slow down too many operations while I'm here, perhaps I can help when I get back.
